Climate | Very dry summers and humid winters. Average temperatures in January are over 35ºC during the day and 25ºC at night. In July the average temperatures are 12ºC during the day and 0ºC at night.
Mendoza is a beautiful city built on a depression that extends to the east to the foot of the Andes mountain range at 750 meters (2,460 feet) above sea level. It was founded on March 2, 1561. Inhabited by the huarpes Indians, who have been submitted by the Inca civilization, from which they inherited the drip irrigation system.
The city is crossed from north to south and from east to west by roads number 40 and 7, respectively. The central urban area occupies around 150 blocks, including the Civic Neighbourhood and the commercial and financial district, visited daily by a floating population that widely surpasses the city’s own population.
Immersed in the global economy on account of an intense foreign trade, its natural attractions and functional infrastructure place Mendoza as a top- quality products and services provider.
Mendoza is the axis of viniculture in South America. It is located in the west centre of Argentina: 31° 59’ and 31° 33’ south lat. and 63° 30’ y 70° 35’ west long.
The distance to Buenos Aires is 1100km, 400 km to Santiago de Chile and 3200 km to San Pablo, Brazil. It is the most important wine centre in South America and the connection to the Pacific Ocean, and its ports.
The city of Mendoza offers a wide range of possibilities as regards restaurants, dancing, tasting of wines or merely to meet friends.
In Luján de Cuyo Department, there is a place called Chacras de Coria which is well known because of its pubs, discos and restaurants. You can visit similar places in El Challao and Godoy Cruz Department as well. Besides, there is an intense nightlife in every Provincial Department.
Concerning recreation, Mendoza comprises a busy agenda related to cultural entertainment. Pubs, bars, theatres and the traditional Provincial Casino are, among others, some of the chosen places for expositions and other cultural activities.
In Mendoza, you can also find a vast gastronomy which combines gourmet and regional cuisine. Some of our main meats consist of goat, lamb and veal as well as salmon, mackerel and perch. But without doubt, the hallmark of the cuisine is the art of combining meals and wines with outstanding varietals expression.

Gran Mendoza | includes the urban areas of Las Heras, Capital, Guaymallén, Godoy Cruz, Maipú and Luján de Cuyo.
North | comprises the department of Lavalle, the desert area and the non urban areas of Luján de Cuyo and Las Heras.
East | includes the departments of Santa Rosa, La Paz, San Martín, Junin and Rivadavia.

Mendoza´s Main Attractions And Tourism
ACONCAGUA
The Aconcagua Provincial Park was founded in 1983, under the Provincial Law Number 4807. The park covers some 71,000 hectares (175,444 acres), protecting an important area of the central Andes, with its main attraction being the Aconcagua Mt, with its peak reaching 6,962 meters (22,841ft), making it the tallest mountain in the Americas.
The area stands out because of its glaciers, and reservoirs of sweet water, holding archaeological remains inside.
VENDIMIA
During the grape harvest seasons, there is a calendar full of cultural activities, including harvest and folk festivals in each counties of the province.
It takes place the first Saturday of March. Born as the popular harvest celebration, this festival goes back to the immigrant times, which used to celebrate the end of their labour and wine making with dances and songs, giving thanks to Mother Nature’s kindness.
WINE
Mendoza has more than 1200 wineries. These wineries produce almost ten millions hectoliters of wine per year.
It is the most important wine centre in South America. Since 2005, Mendoza is member of Great Wine Capitals of the World, together with Melbourne (Australia), Bordeaux (France), San Francisco – Napa Valley (USA), Porto (Portugal), Bilbao and Rioja (Spain), Cape Town (South Africa), Florence (Italy) and Mainz – Rheinhenssen (Germany).
SNOW
Mendoza has many ski resorts, wonderful settings for practicing winter sports. SKY PLACES: LAS LEÑAS, PENITENTES, VALLECITOS, LOS PUQUIOS.
ECOTOURISM
Mendoza embraces 14 Protected Natural Areas, all around the province. Their special environmental characteristics have favoured the presence of unique and varied landscapes as the highest mount in America, Mount Aconcagua.
ADVENTURE
You can put into practice a number of outdoor activities in the mountain and other places. Water sports can be practiced in magnificent sceneries.
The challenging mountains, blue lakes, huge dams, fast flowing rivers and endless dunes are the perfect places to practice climbing, hiking, wind surfing, rafting, horseback riding, cycling, etc.
SPORTS
Mendoza offers a number of sport events that complements its tourist attractions such as the Wine Roads, adventure tourism, science and natural landscapes among others.
The sport activities in Mendoza are varied: football, car racing, rugby, cycling, basketball, tennis, and cross country among others. Furthermore, Mendoza hosts one of the stages of Dakar Rally.
RURAL TOURISM
The traditional “fincas mendocinas” (Mendocinian farms) have been developed thanks to the irrigation system of canals and ditches. Many ways of harvesting from handcrafted methods to modern organic techniques to grow grapevines, olives, fruit trees and many other crops can be observed in these farms. Through this type of tourism, the visitor will be able to learn about the Mendocinean rural way of living.
SPA AND THERMAL
Mendoza is a place where the hot springs, the landscapes and the emblematic wine wake up all the senses of the tourists and local people.
It offers a number of alternatives regarding health spas and spa hotels not only in the southern zone and Valle de Uco but also in Gran Mendoza and in the mountain area: Termas de Chacheuta in Luján de Cuyo and Los Molles in Malargüe.

Argentina is a sovereign country, organized as a representative and federal republic. Its territory is divided in 23 provinces and Buenos Aires, an autonomous city, the nation capital and the seat of the federal government.
This Continental American territory limits with Bolivia and Paraguay to the North, with Brazil to the Northeast, West and South with Chile and to the East with Uruguay and the Atlantic Ocean.
It is characterized for being a “melting pot of races” that defines the essence of the country. The first Argentinean settlers were natives. With the arrival of the conquerors in XVI century, the Spanish habits and values generated a cultural encounter and the beginning of white and Indian crossbreeding.
May 25th 1810 the last Spanish viceroy was laid down. The first government committee was organized and July 9th 1816, the independence was declared in Tucumán. Argentina was a free and sovereign country.
